This critique of my experience with the University of the People (UotP) will be submitted to their accrediting agency,the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), as well as the BBB, and various social media sites. The main reason for this is people need to know whether a school they might attend is capable of carrying them through the process of degree completion, or do the demonstrate evidence of incompetence and inability to handle the most basic aspects of managing a student's account. I have only experienced the latter, as my admissions process with UotP started off so badly I can no longer imagine wanting to be involved in any relationship where I have to depend on these folks for anything, let alone the pursuit of something as important as my degree procurement process. They have completely and literally so bungled chapter one of our relationship whose goal is to get me an earned master's degree: I applied, paid the application fee, but got no further because they cannot seem to assign me an account, or give me access to one. I have been stuck in limbo and none at UotPeople was competent enough to remedy the situation. ___ And the responses to my inquiries for help are seem to have been answered by people who have taken no time to understand and fix the problem. This is both disappointing and unnerving (read "scary"), since this was to have been the institution authorized to effectuate my course assessment process, as well as the tracking of my progress and degree completion. I'm not interested in paying for drama. If the administration cannot effectuate resolution this early in the game how can I trust them to see me seamlessly to the point of degree procurement.

Following this review UotP has responded with a request for my ID# but they never issued me one even though I applied and paid the application fee. They also asked me to send an email which I have sent half a dozen already that proved a waste of time, and scary due to the lack of professionalism and competence in any response I got. How many emails would it actually take to get the problem solved? The world may never know. _________ Just REFUND MY $$$

Absolutely terrible. The people who run the school appear to be in India somewhere,it’s evident they do not speak or write English well, the courses are elementary, and there is not a single number to call to speak to someone. If you call the number provided online, it instructs you to speak to your advisor even though the advisor can’t comprehend questions asked, it typically takes the advisor a week or more to even respond and the response is not even the issue you contacted them about. They have a standard reply for everything. They claim the school is free but you have to pay for each transfer credit. It’s definitely not a good choice for those who have been to college and especially those who speak English.

Not only is this university affordable but it is also providing hope in the lost places,people are rebuilding their lives and some start to hope again due to quality education provided by the university. The university also provides scholarships to some students who cannot afford even this small amount of money. Modules and course material are well structured in a manner that makes the learning process simple but helpful and very practical.
Those who are doubting I encourage you to just take a leap of faith.

Though UoPeople is not flawless, any institution will have its problems due to technology or educational process.For the most part, every subject has its grading ratios that may be slightly different and courseware get altered enough to not be cheatable. Though peer grading is a contentious issue, the instructors are present and have thus far proven themselves to be courteous, considerate and motivative. Most of my 20+ instructors have be outright nice. It is rare to run into negativity and as long as you follow the process for dealing with this, it rarely becomes an issue. If all alse fails, you can withdraw early on from a specific instructor's course and also give a poor grading for the specific subject and its instructor. Which I have never had to do except for 8/10 with courseware that may have had a few problems. Most students try to be considerate and as long as you are earnest in your marking and give good reasons for marking down, most people accept it. If you expect 100% for everything, be warned that later on, the peers will expect higher quality work and good APA. For the university to be authentic they cannot just give marks like it is candy. Some subjects expect a bit more work than others. I have had 6-8 hour sessions during some assignments. But the quality is good and instructors passionate since they chose their subject.
