JSTOR is service provided by ITHAKA, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to help the academic community use digital technologies to preserve the scholarly record and to advance research and teaching in sustainable ways. Founded in 1995 to build a trusted digital archive for scholarship, JSTOR works with the scholarly community to preserve their work and the materials they rely upon, and to build a common research platform that promotes the discovery and use of these resources. In 2009, JSTOR merged with and became part of ITHAKA. JSTOR is one of several services at ITHAKA aimed at preserving the scholarly record and at advancing research and teaching. ITHAKA is also home to Portico, a digital preservation service for e-books, e-journals, and other scholarly e-content, and Ithaka S+R, a strategy and research service that focuses on the transformation of research and teaching in an online environment, with the goal of identifying the critical issues facing our community and acting as a catalyst for change.
