What does Bulb do?

Bulb is a renewable energy retailer, offering its customers affordable renewable energy backed by excellent service and help in reducing energy usage. They supply all their members with 100% renewable electricity and 10% green gas. When you switch to Bulb, they make sure that for every unit of electricity you use, a unit is produced and put on the grid by a renewable source like Oak Grove Solar Farm in Monmouthshire. In addition, 10% of their gas comes from biomethane. That's gas produced from organic matter like sewage and manure - which is then reinjected onto the grid (minus the smell).

Poor customer service

Reviewed on 2021-05-30T02:51:18

Asked for a prepayment meter as the bills were high for a one bedroom flat. They said it would cost 200 pounds.!Despite me being with them from the very beginning. Also told them the economy 7 on my meter did not corresponf to the correct times for off peak.I sent clear pictures and for someone to correct this as it has been out of sync since I bought the property 6 years ago and this would contribute to my high bills.Despite sending 3 emails and speaking to me they have ignored me and don't appear to want to come out and fix the faulty meter.I am an old lady and it's despicable that they just ignore anything that is not a simple customer service question

Unethical! Avoid! Save yourself!

Reviewed on 2021-05-29T20:13:53

Bulb quoted me £30 a month to lure me into signing up to their service. Bills have been increased at least 4 times over the last 2 years (twice in 2021 alone)and guess what… They backdate the new tariff each time and drive your account into an endless cycle of debt. My most recent bill was £320 and my account is now over £700 in debt because I can’t catch up on the backdated tariffs. I live in a 1 bed flat, it’s impossible to have used £320 in a month. This “business” is so unethical and they will drive you into depression and unexpected debt. Save yourself!!

Incompetent at every opportunity

Reviewed on 2021-05-29T10:27:20

The worst experience I've ever had with a company. Non-stop issues with my account for 1.5years. Ispent hours and hours on the phone/email with their customer service advisors trying to resolve the variety of problems relating to inaccurate statements/billing and usage data. Eventually Bulb were insisting I owed a £400 debit on the account. I ended up going through the Ombudsman as a last resort. The Ombudsman looked into the issues and my account - concluding that Bulb actually owed me money... My advice, if you are with Bulb and experiencing issues, is not to wait as long as I did before seeking third-party help. The Ombudsman case process is easy to use and they resolved the problems effectively.

Bulb are without question the worst…

Reviewed on 2021-05-29T08:31:31

Bulb are without question the worst supplier. I joined in April 2020 on a prepaid meter.I was concerned of how much I was topping up and they do not record on account. I contacted them requesting a break down and they agreed that for a one bedroom flat it was expensive. By March 21 I was really struggling, tried ringing emailing for help. Ignored. Finally had enough and left. Requested a final bill. This showed in 12 months I paid £990 pounds in top ups. But actually only used £875. This final meter was verified by a independent third party. I requested a refund they refused. They stated when you top up if we don’t have your meter readings we estimate and “bills can be funky” I stated estimate is not actual usage. They said we have had a hard time and we can’t refund. I truly can’t believe how unprofessional they are. I have complained and to no surprise they have not responded. I have gone to the ombudsman, it may only be £114 to refund but after a year of struggling to be told their bills can be funky and they have had a hard time and can’t refund I intend to do everything I can to get my refund.
