TrueCar service helped me a lot on initial car selection, viewing photos, etc. Contacting dealers didn’t help,but it was not TrueCar issue. Then I made several calls and send email to dealers and found a right deal for me. leasehackr dot com - very helpful to get an idea about a good deal. The rest is up to you, guys. TrueCar does its job great!

I had a terrible experience with Truecar and am so disappointed in myself for not going another route.I used to use USAA and their car buying service and when that went away, they pushed people to Truecar. It isn't quite the same. USAA gave me a quote to bring in and there was no negotiating. They even called when the dealer tried some common dirty tricks, like add-ons or saying the model I asked for didn't exist. With Truecar, there were so many hidden fees from the dealer and it works more like Lending Tree. You give them your info and they blast you with multiple offers. If you decide to use this service, don't buy from the first dealer. Get them as low as you think you can and call another. I hated this experience and would have been better off going at it alone because TrueCar made it look like I had the best offer. I had no idea there could even be a negotiation. I used the Veterans program which made it seem even more legit but now I just feel scammed by Truecar and the dealer. For Veterans looking for a similar service to the USAA car buying guide, I would stay away.

It's smoke and mirrors. True Car wasted my time. I'm a Sam's Club member, True Car partnered withSam's.
The quotes I received through Sam's-True Car were similar/same as prices advertised on sites such as AutoTrader, Cargurus, Cars.com, Edmunds., etc...I was ready to buy at one dealer and lo and behold, abracadabra , Poof, the surprise "Dealer add ons" appeared. They would not honor the True Car quote they sent me and that I confirmed before I drove to the Dealer. They said the quote did not include "dealer fees"...It's typical bait and switch people. I ditched the 1st dealer and went to another dealer that also sent me a True Car quote. I had to haggle the price down to not pay the dealer add on fees. I purchased the new Subaru Forester Sport at the "Sale" price listed on the Dealers webpage. Not the True Car quote. Sure, I paid 2500.00 below MSRP, but True Car was no help at all. No Magical Savings.
You still got to haggle, watch the numbers, and make sure the Dealer's BS doesn't flow onto the final sales/finance/paperwork.
Now my info is in the True Car cloud for ever now. I'm still getting calls and emails from desperate salespeople trying to make their sales quotas.

Truecar was pretty good experience. It helped me find a car that was a few grand under market price.The experience was pretty smooth, my only gripe is you have.to submit your email to check prices and then you are immediately inundated with emails and texts from dealerships salespeople. I'd prefer to be able to browse prices and vehicles first, then reach out to dealers to work with if I find something I like. Other than that, truecar was a quick and easy way to find and buy a car.
