This is not about a specific case. It's about the N. Grid experience. For starters,the company's billpay website is the least user-friendly and slowest we've ever seen. Like molasses. We're talking decades. Notwithstanding repeated website tinkering, it does not markedly improve. For example, It takes a minimum of five minutes to even begin to connect customer service in the best of times. The caller is forced to hear a series of PR messages that add little or no value. Many clearly for image building purposes that only serve to weigh on an already creaky process. Bottom line, N. Grid is like a stuffed elephant badly. It needs a wholesale streamlining and reform from the bottom up. When the lights go out in an outage, calling the company at night, one is asked for an account number as preamble when a hapless customer is in total darkness. If it were a private business-based on the molasses-like customer service and a series of hurdles an end-user faces with even the most routine need, it would have washed out decades ago. By the way, when trying to be a good citizen and report a street light that is out, the first demand is..for a pole number! Stopping on an overpass in the dark of night to get a number could get one killed.

Crumbling main gas pipe inside my home.

National Grid/Cadent is still claiming that the rusty crumbling gas pipe in my kitchen is safe.
I called 0800111999 last year (2017)to report that rust is continuing to crumble away from the gas pipe inside my kitchen at my home. Following my call a Cadent worker attended my home, looked at the rusty main gas pipe connected to the gas meter inside my kitchen and said not to worry and that it is safe. This year (2018) I noticed more rust had crumbled away since the previous Cadent engineer attended and called them again on 15/3/2018 and another Cadent worker attended my home on that morning. He looked at the rusty main gas pipe connected to the gas meter inside my kitchen and said it looked safe. He then proceeded to vigorously rub the rusty part of the pipe with a cloth and swept up the excess rust off the floor with his dustpan and brush set. I asked him if he was going to change the pipe and he asked me what I would want him to change. He went out to his Cadent van for several minutes and when he returned it was just to say that he would ask his manager about it but didn't know when. He then left. National Grid/Cadent keeps deliberately turning a blind eye to the problem. Nobody else that I know has a main gas pipe inside their home in such a bad state. The gas pipe is National Grid/Cadent property and they need to replace it before it crumbles away and causes a gas leak or gas explosion.

On Monday night we came home to a strong gas like smell. (That afternoon we had a service carried out by British Gas)So we instantly thought its got to be the boiler. We noticed the pressure had gone and it was in the 'red zone'. Immediately called BG they put us through to Cadent who were amazing the lady at the call centre she explained what to do and her instructions were clear. 45 minutes later 2 men arrived - done in-depth checks around our home. They were really friendly gave us advise on what to look out for. They reassured me everything was ok explained what they thought it was etc.. I couldn't be more happier. Service as it should be :)

Computer system screws up

Computer system screws up, sets me up for disconnect even though bill was paid well before due date.Had to wait 30 hours for reconnect. Zero customer service, said they have 24 hours to reconnect from time I called in. I find this unacceptable for something they screwed up.
