When an employee of the local Branch does not like you, they write a complaint and the bank closes you account in 15 days.
I called the number listed, and the person who picked up the line was powerless to provide any details. Talked to the Manager at the local branch, and he has no power to do anything because the decision was made by the head office.

HSBC Canada has become an utter embarrassment to an already disgraced profession.
The bank will close longstanding accounts because overseas, outsourced "Safeguard" call centres can't understand clear English and enter completely unrelated information into a client's profile (i.e. 'corporate lawyer' is recorded as 'checkout clerk'). You couldn't make this up.
From the 7-8 people I spoke to at HSBC Canada to clear this up over a period of 6 weeks during Covid-19 lockdowns, 1 employee spoke intelligible English.
Anyways, CIBC was happy to take my business but it's far too early to say whether they're any better. At least their call centre staff seem to speak clearly and concisely with a comprehension above that of a 2nd grader.
What a headache.read more

HSBC is a terrible bank! They’ll suspend and close your account without basis, and worse of all, they won’t send you any notice, not even a letter, an email or a call. Your relationship manager, who’s new every few months because of very high personnel turnover and tucked away in their Toronto or Vancouver office, won’t return your calls or answer your emails. The branch manager flagged my account a few weeks ago when I deposited USD1,000 into my USD account. She suspected me of doing “illegal” activities. USD1,000??? Are you freaking kidding me??? Meanwhile, this bank is rotten to the core. It was fined USD1.9B by the U.S. Justice Department for helping Mexican drug cartels inject drug money into the banking system. It rubs elbows with the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) and those who are connected to the communist bureaucracy (e.g. Huawei) by supporting the National Security Law on Hong Kong and closing the accounts of those suspected of having connection with the pro-democracy movement. Most people don’t know this, but this bank thru its HSBC Private Banking and HSBC Premier is the go-to bank for the CCP and its beneficiaries to move money from China to Canada and lauder the money into the real estate markets of Vancouver and Toronto, which made the real estate prices out of reach for most Canadians. Stay away from HSBC in general. They won’t be in business in Canada within the decade.read more

I have accounts with HSBC in Canada, US and UK due to the amount of travel I have done, places I have lived.Even though the banks are kind of separate entities they are all linked with a common brand and back end system that is easy to use. Moving assets from one country to another, where I have an account, has been completely invaluable to running my life. I've had some hiccups with all the separate entities of the banks which have been frustrating but my overall feedback of the company is very positive. Some of the security is very high compared to other financial institutions I bank with, which is good.read more

We were looking to open a small business account
Which they professed to specialize in,lol, reallydisappointed
It has been over a month, and it’s a disaster,so happy I didn’t close our current arrangements, because we would have been severely
Compromised if I had listened to the false promises
I have now figured it all out ,pay attention,!
