What does General Dental Council do?

We are the organisation which regulates dental professionals in the United Kingdom. All dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, clinical dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists must be registered with us to work in the UK. Our purpose is to protect the public by regulating the dental team. We do that by: • registering qualified professionals, • setting standards of dental practice and conduct, • assuring the quality of dental education, • ensuring professionals keep up-to-date, • helping patients with complaints about a dentist or dental care professional, and • working to strengthen patient protection.

The GDC must reinstate Dr.Amir

Reviewed on 2021-05-16T14:39:41

I was shocked and saddened to learn of the GDC’s inexplicable decision to suspend Dr.Amir.This kindly man is not only an esteemed dentist in his own right, but has for many decades tried to bring a holistic approach to improve the overall health condition of his patients, many of whom have benefited greatly. I have personally heard dozens of positive testimonies from his patients (while in the practice waiting room). Along with his many patients, myself and my family have greatly benefited from his experience, expertise and advice (including his expert opinion to minimise / avoid tooth extraction if possible). My wife has seen huge benefits with her gait, breathing and neck and shoulder pain as a result of Dr.Amir’s complementary approach. No other medical, physiotherapist or dental practitioners she had previously seen were able to diagnose or bring her back to full health. Dr.Amir’s approach clearly works for many of his patients and his decades of experience should be lauded by the GDC as furthering the reputation of the profession. Why should Dr. Amir not be allowed to bring a more holistic approach to the practice of dentistry? It would greatly benefit the profession and is in line with how the general field of medicine and health is developing (i.e, emphasis on long term health by getting to the root of the problem, rather than short term fixes focussed solely on alleviating current symptoms of a deeper underling issue). The unjust and inexplicable decision to suspend Dr.Amir must be immediately reversed. His many patients and the community around his practice urgently need him to be able to practice and look after their dental and overall health needs. Mr. R.Sheikh

I am very sorry and devastated for the situation Dr.Amir has been facing. Not only did I send him many complicated patients that I couldn't treat as a therapist, but as a patient myself, having my teeth straightened and jaw aligned made me a healthy and pain free body. I cannot thank him enough for his remarkable and respectful work and he is a generous and kind person to care all his patients, a real doctor. His approach extends to holistic and general health, not only the dental fields that no one can do! The GDC should know how many difficult and incurable illness cases he has helped with to return to a healthy body. I really hope that his suspension will be lifted and his practice will be reinstated soon.

I am so deeply saddened by the GDC's decision to suspend Dr. Amir. Review after review shows people genuinely benefitting from his treatments as I have done also. Why does this count for nothing? Where are we meant to turn now? Dr. Amir is in private practice and hired by people who are there in the main because they have been failed by everybody else in the medical professions and their conditions are debilitating. Dr. Amir doesn't write people off and prescribe painkillers sentencing people to live half-lives at best... he has thought about and studied health from a holistic stand-point and has pioneered treatments that have brought long dreamed for improvements to so many within a private practice. Why can't he be allowed to continue? What is this about really? Does the GDC operate for the benefit of patients? For whose benefit is his suspension?

Suspension of Dr. Amir

Reviewed on 2021-05-02T19:24:16

I was devastated when I heard that Dr. Amir was suspended from the GDC. He was always so professional and successfully treated my neurological symptoms within a short space of time in 2005.Unfortunately, I was unable to finish my treatment as I went to Australia. I now have neurological symptoms with long Covid and dental issues. I am relying on Dr. Amir's dental treatment to fix this. Please GDC reconsider your stance on this.

The GDC must reinstate Dr Amir…

Reviewed on 2021-05-01T20:15:08

The GDC must reinstate Dr Amir immediately.Having been to multiple Dentists and had lots of procedures(none of which helped, infact making me worse) Dr Amir is by far the best . His knowledge and experience are second to none. I only wish I’d consulted with Dr Amir before spending many thousands on the wrong treatments. This man is a genius. His work should be studied and applied nationally. These so called Specialists on Harley Street are able to peddle there horrendously expensive and damaging services untouched, however somebody who cares and gets results is suspended. The GDC ruling beggars belief . REINSTATE DR AMIR IMMEDIATELY SO HE CAN CONTINUE HIS PIONEERING WORK .

The absurd decision by the GDC needs to…

Reviewed on 2021-04-29T12:40:00

The absurd decision by the GDC needs to be revoked immediately. How is this even possible?I was shocked the GDC are preventing Dr Amir’s current and future patients from receiving the care they require. It is a gross misuse of their responsibility and power. How dare they disregard what we as patients have said, throwing out and discrediting our experiences and the patient care we have had with Dr Amir. Their inability and unwillingness to see a whole picture is exactly the small mindedness that plagues the medical and dental fields. It is only due to Dr Amir, who actually takes his role of caring for patients, sharing his expertise to bring them the best care possible so they can live their complete best life that am I able to say, I am doing exactly that. I have been a patient of Dr Amir for over 12 years. During this time he has given me some of the most comprehensive care, the most successful outcomes that I have ever received from the dental and medical community. Why? It is because he actually listens, he actually cares, he dares to ask questions, dares to think outside of old and restrictive ideals. He doesn’t just throw up his hands and say, nothing we can do, here are some drugs. The narrow and prejudiced view of the should not impact those who are, through Dr Amir, receiving relief from debilitating pain as well as exemplary dental care. He researches, he looks for solutions, he doesn’t just accept what has been deemed right just because it is easier. When there are advances in equipment, he will be aware of it and bring it into the clinic so we benefit. As so often has been shown in history, boards and committees such as GDC have stood in the way of progression. Rather then stifling Dr Amir and thwarting steps forward for many, why don’t they pay attention to us who are speaking, ask him for guidance from what he has researched and consider applying into dental and medical care what he recommends rather than crushing it. Are they so afraid, so brainwashed, so in league with the pharmaceutical companies they can no longer see there may be alternatives. For myself, I had migraines so severe I was completely debilitated. Unable to function in any way to fully live my life. These migraines had plagued me for years and over time were getting worse in duration and intensity to the point so I was unable to stay in my job. It was by chance, one I remain wholly grateful for, I saw an article in the newspaper outlining Dr Amir’s work. Let me be clear, I had been to gps, medical specialists, chiropractors, massage, acupuncture you name it, I had done every kind of recommended exercise, eaten or not eaten whatever foods were advised, to no avail. I went to each scenario with the same quest and willingness and practical awareness. Do not dare to insult me or any of the other patients for that matter with any reference to placebo effect. I had no bias for any of the treatments, conventional or not that I attempted. I can clearly distinguish between having pain and not! Dr Amir then and now treated my situation with full attention and respect and I know he does this for each of his patients. We are not factory issued but individuals with similar but unique versions of discomfort, pain, disability. With the brace he made for me, the damage done by previous dentists was slowing rectified. The pressure was taken off my spine and to this day I remain without ANY migraines. This is without drugs. This is without surgery. Other specialist were suggesting they break my jaw and reset it but they weren’t sure if it would work. How shockingly invasive and that is considered ok, unquestioned but this not??? I now have a retainer that I wear at night and visit periodically to check everything is to order, adjusting if required. There is no one else who is doing this and it is imperative I continue to receive this expertise. It is also my regular dental care from cleaning to filling to whatever may arise, there is no one else that has the full comprehensive knowledge and perspective that takes into account that our bodies are not split into unrelated parts, we are a fully connected mechanism. Our dental selves are not a separate entity but part of a whole self, what occurs with dental work impacts the rest of us. This is the dentistry I want and Dr Amir provides it. Do not take that from me or his other patients, now or in the future.

Please reinstate Dr Amir

Reviewed on 2021-04-27T10:55:10

Dr Amir is an amazing dentist. I have been a patient of his for over 30 years, as has my family.I was shocked and devastated to hear of his suspension. I very much doubt his patients were consulted. In fact, this decision seems to have ignored or disregarded the experiences and health of his patients. He genuinely cares about his patients and for me has always been able to resolve any dental problem I have had over the years; and they have been significant. He is a leader in new techniques and is always developing his skills and knowledge. We can only trust that this decision will be reconsidered and Dr Amir is reinstated. I am extremely grateful, as is my family, to have him as our dentist, his skill and expertise has changed the life and health of many.
