This place is not always pet oriented…

Reviewed on 2021-05-13T21:51:47

This place is not always pet oriented or customer oriented. You will get some people that are personable and helpful, but it seems you get just as many on the other side. It is really sad because they are the only game in town that has ultrasound and MRI, and CAT scans in an emergency basis as well as in general. But some of the managers and employees can be insensitive and difficult, at a time when you are trying to help your dog. The littlest logical disagreement or opposing logical opinion can set them off like I'm there to serve them and take care of them. Immature in a lot of ways, and incapable of being compassionate and understanding of someone's pet that is sick. Some of these people I really don't think have a heart. It is extremely difficult if not impossible at times when your pet is suffering and then you have to deal with someone that is an idiot but believes they are special. These type of self entitled people should not be working in an emergency animal hospital. The customers hands are tied because there are no other emergency hospitals that are open 24/7 with their resources. If I was dealing with someone else's animal and I couldn't give them 100% of everything I had, I would go look for other work.....because I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. I would not suggest anyone not go there because of the equipment they have, and they do have some good doctors. A lot of times for the sake of your animal, it is a good idea to have these tests done for their well being (ultrasound, cat scan, MRI), but it would be nice if Blue Pearl would hire less combative, always in the right, difficult to deal with people, when others that have animals that are sick and suffering, or possibly dying, don't have to deal with their very high maintenance personalities. They have a customer relations department, but they don't do anything. There is a problem form the CEO down. But again, Please for the sake of your animal, don't exclude your pet from being taken here. The equipment they have could definitely be useful in saving your pets life or stopping their suffering, because of the information these machines can give. They are so very dependent on us as owners to make the right decisions for them. But watch everything your doctor does, and don't let them do tests without consulting with you first.

I feel robbed

Reviewed on 2021-05-02T19:47:32

I am disappointed in the overall level of care that I received in Jacksonville FL.My complaints are not with any particular staff member (Every staff member I did interact with was extremely personable and professional) however there was a huge deficit in overall communication and care for me as a pet owner. I brought my dog to the ER due to extreme respiratory concerns and fever that were occurring overnight after not improving from a visit to his regular vet. I brought him in on a Saturday and was given two options: (1) to have him seen and stabilized until Monday to be seen by internal medicine or (2) have him discharged and he wouldn't be able to be seen by internal medicine for another week. Because of his condition I chose to have him stay the weekend with the promise of having him seen and cared for by internal medicine throughout the following week. He was seen by internal medicine for less than 48 hours and then the doctor had a day off and then called out sick right before Easter weekend and would not be there to follow up on all of the tests that were ordered. I paid $2,000 each day he was there and paid just shy of $10,000 for him to stay there a week with internal medicine but he was only seen less than 2 days. Everyone I spoke to during the doctors absence said that they didnt know much because they weren't internal medicine. My dog was released the following Friday and had not improved and passed away that Sunday. I am devastated. During his intake I was told that I would be given at least two calls per day either from the doctors, nurses or techs. During the intake call I was also given an email address to send a video of his symptoms for the doctor to review. I received a response later that evening stating that they had no record of my dog being a patient there. I had to call and have this corrected. When I finally spoke with the ER vet, he had not been provided the video and I, again, had to resend the video and call. One of my major complaints is that although I was promised at least two phone calls per day, I only received 3 phone calls initiated from the hospital during the entire week that my dog was in their care. There were two days where I would call in at different times of the day to try and get an update and I would be transferred from the front desk and someone would pick up the phone and immediately hang up. I went over 24 hours without a single update although I was attempting to call. The internal medicine specialist had also not seen the video because it was not in his patient file (causing her to not know the true extent of his symptoms) and I had to resend it. The doctor sent labs and said she would review them and the video and get back to me the following day. However the doctor then called out sick. So then my dog was seen by a critical care specialist, in her absence. Again this doctor also had not seen the video because it STILL was not uploaded in his file. For over $2000/day, I do not find this acceptable patient care. I am SOOOO disappointed

Back in December of 2020 I was referred to blue pearl by banfield. My 14 year old dog jet had been diegnosed with glocoma. He also has a heart murmur. After charging 500.00 for the visit. Said drops wouldn't help but for 5000.00 they would remove the eye. Thank God my gut told me to get a second opinion. Because the vet I have now put him on drops in his eyes three times a day and he is doing great. And told me at his age and with a heart murmur he would of never made it through a surgery.

I was referred to blue pearl in Irvine…

Reviewed on 2021-04-14T06:11:11

I was referred to blue pearl in Irvine CA to get a neurological assessment on my dog, Yugi,to determine if he would benefit from canine rehab. He is a rescue dog that has difficulty walking. He is the sweetest dog I’ve ever had and tries so hard. The vet there said the best way to determine the origin of his problem was to do an MRI that would cost $3000 to $4000. I told the vet that I could not afford the MRI. He then suggested that they could do 4 X-rays for $300 to $400 that might help determine the cause of his mobility problems. The actual charge was $577 for 4 X-rays and my total bill for the assessment was a whopping $803. The so-called specialist told me my dog had a “peg leg” and the cause was still unknown after the X-rays and his examination. He said that rehab might have some benefit for Yugi. I wasn’t show the X-rays or given a written assessment. This place is a rip-off and all they care about is $. After reading other reviews I’m grateful that at least they did not hurt or injure my sweet dog. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE READ THIS…

Reviewed on 2021-04-12T11:49:43

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE READ THIS FIRST ! I took my dog dashound there on 4-5-21 for stomach issues from not going to the bathroom for a few days. They did a review and said it was Pancreatitis. They assigned her meds and I brought her home. After a day she starting to have black runny stool and a small lump on the back of her neck. I called to have her brought back to be re examined. They told us that they would like to keep her for 48 hrs to treat her there with meds and monitor her better. They charged me 3600.00$ which was to also include a test of the lump on her neck. They said it was just a fatty tissue and not to be alarmed. However when I got home with her 48 hours later I immediately found another mass on the back of her left leg and the bottom of her stomach was all red and irritated. She wasn't home 5 minutes and I brought her back to be rechecked. How can they NOT notice these issues and still say she was good to come home? With another exam they then said it was cancer. Something was missed or not checked like they said they did and wanted to just pass another dog through there system and get a big pay out for it. The waiting time for each visit was approx. 5-8 hrs each time. Now I have no choice but to but a loved one down cause of there mistakes or not really testing the mass on her neck the first time like they said. From the 4 visits that I was there I had noticed more dogs being put down than being saved. There are much better choices and cheaper specialty vets in the area. God Bless our DIXIE GIRL she is and always will be in our hearts for ever.

You will regret your decision to take your pet to Blue Pearl

Reviewed on 2021-04-12T00:14:26

This was the worst experience of my life!!! The vet was absolutely incompetent and rude.My dog was in excruciating pain from a slipped disc in her back. They gave her pain meds for a 10 pound dog and is a 21 pound dog. We couldn't understand why after giving her the meds she felt no pain relief. When we looked at the discharge form we saw the error in the weigbt calculation. We called the vet and asked her to prescribed new medication for the correct weight and she refused. Her name was Margaret Gordon and she is the worst vet I have ever met. Please protect your animals and pick a different pet hospital .

Unreal, Fever Dream Experience

Reviewed on 2021-04-11T22:58:42

To say that our experience was negative would be putting it lightly. It felt like a fever dream thatyou couldn't wake up from. We called our normal vet about our dog's symptoms and they advised they were closing but to call Blue Pearl, send them videos of what was going on and they would advise. I called Blue Pearl. They said sure, send the videos over and we will take a look. I sent them over and waited an hour, nothing. I called and they confirmed they had received the videos, would review with the doctor and call me shortly to advise. Another hour and a half went by... nothing. I called again. They said well, yes based on what we are seeing and hearing in the video we think it's a good idea to bring him in because what sound is not normal. We brought him, COVID kept us in our cars... no problem. They said they were going to have him wait in the car with us because they weren't sure if he may have kennel cough or canine influenza but wanted to be sure to keep the other animals safe from possible transmission. Great, no problem. 3.5 HOURS LATER, I stop a tech that was receiving her Uber Eats order from a car that pulled up and very politely asked her if she knew about how long it might be because our pup was getting restless. She scoffed and said he was stable and was on the list to be seen but he was the most stable patient they had and it was probably just kennel cough. WHAT!? We watched these people efficiently turn over somewhere between 8-10 animals in the time we sat in our car waiting. They showed up, got triage, brought in, returned to owners and they left.... at least 8-10 times. You mean to tell me ALL of those animals were FAR LESS STABLE than my dog who can barely breathe without hacking so hard he terminally retches!? I was livid. Called for the operator and she was also flippant about the whole thing. When asked why we were told to bring him if it wasn't urgent she just said "I can't speak to why they told you to bring him". They didn't give TWO sh*ts that we were sitting there for over 3 hours waiting for him just to be brought in. The kicker? They really weren't sure what's wrong without myriad of testing and so I told them since it wasn't urgently life threatening, we would take him home and wait to see his primary vet. No compassion. No empathy. Complete incompetence. Total disregard for their patient and owners. I am angry, sad for my pup and just downright pissed off to be treated this way. 4 1/2 hours in total were spent to have a 16 min conversation with the DVM. It's unacceptable and downright disrespectful and DANGEROUS to treat patients and animals this way. Never, EVER again. There are NO excuses for this behavior.
